Breaking news: Oral Drug for Gonorrhea Receives FDA Approval
Sep. 13, 2007 -- Lupin Pharmaceuticals has received FDA approval for their 400 mg tablet formulation of cefixime. Cefixime is the only oral drug currently recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea. However, this drug has not been available on the U.S. market for a number of years. Information is still scarce, but it is expected that cefixime tablets will be widely available by the end of the year. There are no immediate changes to treatment guidelines for gonorrhea. Further information will be posted on this page as soon as it becomes available.
